概要 Introduction and Objective: Diurnal enuresis and nocturnal enuresis can occur at the same time, however, many children with nighttime wetting will not have wetting during the day. Children with daytime wetting may have frequent urination or urgent urination. They may also dribble after urination. Diurnal enuresis is encountered in about 10% of children between 4 and 6 years old, and this figure decreases steadily to reach 5 % in 6 to 12 years olds, 4% in adolescents, and 2% in adults. Otherwise, approximate nocturnal eneuresis rates are: 20% at age 5, 10 to15% at age 6, 7% at age 7, 5% at age 10, 1 to 2% age 15 and 0.5 to 1 % between age 18 to 64.
We herein reports the use of Kampo formula (Bupleurum Root drug group) in patients suffering from mental retardation with enuresis refractory to previous treatment modalities (including anticholinergic drugs and/or antidepressants).
Materials and Methods: A total of 8 patients (6 men and 2 women) with autism, mental retardation, epilepsy and hyperkinetic syndrome complaining of enuresis took Bupleurum Root drug group from April 2003 to January 2011 in our Hospital. Mean patients age was 17 years old (range 8 to 42).
Results: After the treatment, five of eight patients’ condition had improved and two patients could not take medicine, Bupleurum Root drug group.
Conclution: Bupleurum Root drug group seems to be a drug of choice for psychosomatic disorder patients with enuereis refractory to previous treatments.
