概要 | Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the project in which college students create their dietary diaries and follow each other on social media by using the smartphone app.
Methods: Forty college students were recruited to keep their dietary diaries for five days with texts and photos through their smartphones and followed their diaries among three-to-four-members on social media. Online surveys were conducted for three times, before, after and one month after of the experiment, so that participants answered about what they experienced through the project in free descriptions. They were analyzed by the qualitative content analysis. Results: Their free descriptions showed that participants came to describe their eating habits more concretely and critically. Using smartphones were familiar for them, and it allowed them to keep dietary diaries easily with fun. They experienced advantages from using social media, on which they learned and motivated each other. On the other hand, it needed special techniques, internet connections and privacy considerations. Conclusions: This methodology which embraces the peer-education/support with social media holds promise for the future as health promotion for youths. More examination to overcome the challenges will be needed for the next steps.
